McNULTY SCORES NINE GOALS FOR HAMILTON ATHLETICS LOSE 13 - 5 TO HAMILTON CLUB The St. Catharines Standard Tuesday July 23, 1957 HAMILTON - Led by the sensational nine-goal output of former St. Catharines star Jim McNulty, Hamilton Lincolns defeated the Athletics 13 - 5 last night in a senior lacrosse game watched by a disappointingly small crowd in Hamilton's Cannon Bowl. McNulty's output, highest in senior lacrosse in Ontario in at least the past three years, was partially made possible by his running mate, another St. Catharines product, Leo Teatro. Teatro assisted on six of McNulty's goals as well as on a single by Roger Smith. "When he's hot like that there's just no way to hold him down," stated Joe McNulty, coach of the Athletics and older brother of the Hamilton star. And "hot" McNulty the younger was. He had his underhand "fireball" working to perfection, catching the upper corners with faultless precision and giving rise to the speculation that if he continues his present pace there could be a new Ontario championship club this season taking over from the perennial champs from Peterboro. Four In Second McNulty scored three of his goals in the first period after Harry VanAteer had opened the scoring for Hamilton. He added four more in the wide open second, then "slackened" his pace with just two in the third. Roger Smith picked up two of the remaining four Hamilton counters. For the Athletics, who trailed 4 - 0 in the first period and 10 - 3 in the second, singles were scored by Al Frick, Dave Hall, Ron Roy, Doug Smith and Ted Howe. Smith also picked up two assists. The Athletics return home for a Friday night engagement against the same Hamilton Lincolns. First Period
