LACROSSE THE SHAMROCKS LOSE AT ST. CATHARINES The Toronto Globe Monday July 30, 1889 St. Catharines, July 29 - The Athletics added one more to their unbroken record of victories this season when they met the Shamrocks, of Montreal, here this afternoon. The Athletics won the first, third and fourth games in 4, 5 and 2 minutes respectively. the Shamrocks captured the second and fifth goals, each after 7 minutes play. There was a large attendance and the play was of such a nature as to keep the audience in good humor throughout the entire contest. As the Shamrocks had to leave for home at five o'clock, by agreement the time of the match was limited to one and a half hour's play. The sixth game was very exciting as the Shamrocks tried hard to tie the Athletics score, but without avail, as the referee called time when the sixth game had been in progress for 20 minutes.
